A new service has been developed to provide footcare including toenail
cutting for people who are unable to care for their own feet.
This service will be available to people who: -
? Have been assessed by a Podiatry Service podiatrist
? Do not require treatment by a qualified Podiatrist
? Are unable to care for their own feet
? Do not have a carer who is able or wishes to care for their feet
Although this service is not a part of the Podiatry Service, in order
to access this new service people will need to be assessed by a qualified
NHS Podiatrist to ensure they do not have any foot health problems that
would require care by a qualified Podiatrist. People may request an assessment
themselves by completing a form from their local Podiatry clinic or be
referred by their GP to the Podiatry Service for their assessment.
Provided no underlying foot health problems are detected by the Podiatrist
and an individual meets the criteria set out above, the Podiatrist will
make a referral to the PCT’s Footcare Service.
At the time of referral the Podiatrist will explain the service to the
individual concerned and provide them with information about the footcare
equipment they will need to buy prior to attending the Footcare Service.
Each individual who is eligible for the Footcare service will need to
purchase a set of nail clippers and a file from the clinic at a cost of
approximately £14. They will need to keep these instruments and
ensure they are available at each appointment.
In most cases people will be provided with appointments at a clinic.
Clinics will be available at the following sites: -
Boston
Skegness
Horncastle
Louth
Mablethorpe
Spalding
Sutton Bridge
If people are unable to get to a clinic they will be offered a home visiting
service.
Appointments will be offered on average every 3 months.
