The Forum started life early in 2002 in response to government initiatives
for more local input into how local services were delivered. A group of
partners, i.e. Social Services, Boston Borough Council, East Lincolnshire
Primary Care Trust, Help the Aged and Age Concern got together to give
assistance and funding. Without their help the Forum would not exist.
Unfortunately the Forum floundered, mainly because of the inexperience
of the committee and the partners were obliged to step in and "resurrect'
it. A new committee were formed and a part time Community Involvement
Worker appointed to assist the Forum to find its feet. Following the first
full committee meeting with the Involvement Worker in attendance on the
8thJanuary 2003 the Forum has moved on some way The Forum has established
its own identity with its unique and eye catching posters that are on
display throughout the area. It also has in place sub committees to deal
with almost anything that comes its way.
The Forum held its first open meeting on the 12'hMarch 2003 with a guest
speaker from the Highways Department our local Crime reduction officer.
This meeting saw a lively debate with new comers to the Forum taking a
full and active part. As a result of this meeting the forum also got its
first call for help from members of the general public. We are pleased
to say that a considerable amount of help has been (and is still) be'
g given to the couple who needed help.
We are here as a forum to help promote the raising of standards for the
elderly, both through our actions in pursuing a better quality of life
and by our role as a consultative body for the statutory bodies.
Through the efforts of a an extremely dedicated and hardworking committee
we hope to take the Forum forward so that it will become The Voice Of
The Older Public, known and respected throughout the district. |
