To mark the International Older People’s Day in October in 2009, we organised an Advice and Information Day. More than 150 visitors and stall holders met at the Trinity Centre in Louth: nearly 110 of those were ‘older people’ attending to see what services, entitlements and help were available to people of their age.
Stands at the event included Louth and District Voluntary Car Scheme, Call Connect, Fire and Rescue, Trading Standards, Police, Sports Partnership, Home Improvement Agency including Handyperson service and Falls Prevention, First Contact, Age Concern Lindsey, Home from Hospital, Home Library Service, British Red Cross, Louth and District Lions Club, ELDC Housing and Council Tax Benefits Service, The Pension Service, Smoke Free Homes, Meridian Leisure Centre, Deaf Lincs, Louth Branch of Parkinson’s UK, Louth and Lindsey Blind Society, Team parish of Louth (inc Fish on Fridays, Parish lunches, parish visiting scheme), East Lindsey Citizens Advice Bureau, Lincolnshire Local Involvement Network (Link), Health Trainers (including checking blood pressure) and Wiltshire Farm Foods
.
There was a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day with advice being given, information exchanging hands and help offered. The event was opened by Cllr Doreen Stephenson, the Leader of East Lindsey District Council. Doreen was one of the founding members of our Seniors’ Forum back in 2004. The photograph shows Committee Member, Marjorie Barnes, the then Chair, Sara Morris, Cllr Doreen Stephenson and Mark Barnes who was the Louth Town Centre Manger at the time.
Membership of Louth & District Seniors’ Forum is free and open to anyone over 50 in an approximate area of 10 miles radius of Louth. The benefit of becoming a member is that you get the quarterly newsletter ‘Open Voice’ sent to you at no cost to yourself.
