| Skegness & District Seniors Forum: Open Meeting on Tuesday 19th September 2006 |
Skegness
& District Seniors Forum held their open meeting at the Catholic Church
Hall, Grosvenor Road on Tuesday 19th September 2006 where they launched
their newsletter which was published with the valued support of Skegness
Town Council.
Tony Day from Skegness Police Station’s Crime Prevention Service explained the new Neighbourhood Watch Scheme “Nominate A Neighbour” House callers would be referred to the “Nominated Neighbour” who would checkout the caller on behalf of the vulnerable person. Len Marshall is running a campaign to get council tax assessed on the ability to pay i.e. based on income rather than property value on his “Is It Fair” project. The forum is actively participating in the campaign and has supplied Mr Marshall with petition forms of support. Following the break for refreshments and the raffle, Jill
Buchannan-Huck from Social Services detailed the new pilot scheme of Individual
Budgets. An annual budget is worked out, in consultation with relatives
where applicable, on an individual’s personal care requirements
and a monthly payment is then received to spend on that care from any
source the patient wishes. This new scheme is being run alongside the
current system, which means that not everybody will be put on this procedure,
so that comparisons can be made and lessons learned and refinements made
accordingly. |
